(Model number:DS-1-4A)
Limited Edition DS-1 Distortion

The DS-1 Distortion was introduced in 1978 as part of the second wave of compact pedal releases. Its hard-edged attack and smooth sustain was an instant success among guitarists, going on to fuel the signature sounds of numerous rock legends. The DS-1 has enjoyed such enduring popularity that’s it’s remained in the lineup to this day, outselling every other BOSS pedal to date.
To commemorate 40 years of BOSS pedal innovation, we’ve released a special version of the DS-1 that features a black body with gold lettering, gold-capped knobs, and a vintage silver thumbscrew for the battery compartment. The pedal comes in a special box with the BOSS 40th anniversary logo, and will be available in 2017 only.

Limited-Edition DS-1 Distortion Commemorates Four Decades of Stompbox Innovation

Way back in 1977, BOSS launched the compact pedal line with the OD-1 Overdrive, PH-1 Phaser, and SP-1 Spectrum. Over the last four decades, BOSS stompboxes have become an industry standard, recognized everywhere for their great sound, amazing durability, and unique practical design. We’re celebrating the 40th anniversary of compact pedals throughout 2017, and have many activities planned. To kick things off, we’re introducing a limited-edition version of the iconic DS-1 Distortion, the longest-running BOSS pedal ever.

About the Limited-Edition DS-1 Distortion

BOSS introduced the DS-1 Distortion in 1978. This innovative pedal produced a more refined and versatile sound than other distortion stomps of the era. It soon became the benchmark in guitar distortion, and it’s remained so popular that it’s never left the compact pedal lineup. The DS-1’s aggressive-yet-smooth tone defined the core sound of many rock, punk, and heavy metal guitarists through the late ’70s, ‘80s, and beyond. To this day, this landmark pedal continues to influence all sorts of rock genres.

A limited-edition DS-1 will be available throughout 2017. In contrast to the familiar orange color of the stock model, this special version has a sleek black body with gold lettering, gold-capped knobs, and a vintage silver thumbscrew. It also comes in a commemorative black box with the 40th anniversary logo. The limited-edition DS-1 will only be available this year, so pick yours up before they’re gone!

Celebrating 40 Years of Pedal Innovation

In 1977, BOSS launched the iconic compact series with the OD-1 Overdrive, PH-1 Phaser, and SP-1 Spectrum pedals. In the 40 years since that introduction, the colorful line has been adopted by generations of musicians, with 119 unique pedal models produced to date and well over 15 million units sold. Our pedals are used by players of all levels, from famous touring pros to bedroom hobbyists. In fact, it’s hard to find an experienced guitarist who hasn’t used one or more BOSS pedals at some point throughout their playing career.

BOSS stompboxes are renowned for their great sound, rugged durability, and a unique practical design that remains vital four decades on. But while these primary factors haven’t changed, the technology that goes inside the pedals has continually evolved.
From the beginning, we’ve maintained a passionate spirit as a sound innovator. Leveraging knowledge gained through persistent research and experimentation, our pedals incorporate everything from old-school analog circuits to high-tech DSP. But while the design approaches differ, there has always been just one goal in mind: to achieve the very best sound possible.

The current BOSS compact lineup includes over 50 models that cover the effects needs of guitarists, bassists, and other musicians around the world. We are extremely proud that our pedals continue to inspire creativity in all types of genres, and remain dedicated to leadership in pedal innovation for many decades to come.
